Creating a Home Organizational System

It’s a new year, which means it’s time for a fresh start! And we believe the best place to do that is your home—since we’ve all been spending so much time there! Creating an easy organizational system is a great way to start, so make sure to read these tips before you begin.

1. Declutter
First things first, get rid of everything you don’t need. That includes anything from clothes you no longer wear, to outdated electronics, to items around the house that no longer “spark joy”. If it doesn’t add to your happiness, donate or trash it—the amount of room you’ll have will make space for a whole new you.

2. Keep it simple
Chances are, if you have a family, you’ll want to keep your organizational system simple enough for everybody to understand. Whether it’s color-coding smaller items, or alphabetizing your book collection, ensure it makes enough sense for others to emulate.

3. Make sure it’s sustainable
Websites like Pinterest can give you serious design envy, but you also need to be realistic. Any organizational system should be sustainable for it to last. That usually means understanding your time constraints and going from there. For example, a full-time job might make it hard for you to label everything or consistently replenish food items in fancy containers. However, if you have the time and desire!

4. See-through storage items are lifesavers
Whether it’s food or seasonal items, storing things in clear containers allows you to see what you need at a glance, and also saves time from labelling everything.
