What To Do With All Those Family Photos

Piles of Developed Photos?
Phone Storage Always Full?
Do you have boxes (and boxes!) of photos cluttering up your basement, office, or attic…maybe all of the above?

It’s hard to sort through photos as they hold strong emotional ties to people and times in our lives.
Digital photos can be a burden too!  They take up almost no physical space, but scrolling through thousands of photos makes it hard to, and next to impossible, to enjoy them!

Here’s Our Step-By-Step Guide to Photo Freedom:

Eliminate duplicates: For physical photos, it’s easy.  For digital photos, try a duplicate photo removal app!

Purge: No one wants to look at a bad photo.  Discard blurry or bad photos.  If there are multiple shots of the same view or person, narrow it down to the best shots in that roll.

Curate: Pretend you’re curating a photo book.  Of all the photos from each vacation, holiday, school year, or event, which are the best representations of that time? Keep these photos as mementos, and let the others go.
(Use a permanent marker to write names of family members on the back, for future generations.)

Organize by year / time / event / occasion / subject / location: Whatever works for you

Store: Photo albums or archival boxes can keep them organized, but make sure you really want them.

Share: A great way to use photos (instead of leaving them in storage) is to share them with friends and loved ones.  Send them with a hand written note to stay connected.

DISPLAY: The best thing about curating your photo collection is being able to enjoy them!  There are so many options now to get the most out of your collection:

Aside from the regular picture frames and photo albums, you can scan photos and use digital photos to create:

Digital photo frames: they cycle through a library of photos, making sure you get to see all of them, always

Blankets, table runners, pillow cases: Many websites allow you to make a montage of multiple photos and will print them on any kind of fabric you can imagine.  Keep them close, see them often, or give them as gifts.

Digital Photo Books: An amazing resource for printing and viewing the photos that live on your phone.  Select your photos in easy to use apps, and receive a beautiful printed book in the mail.  Some have subscriptions that encourage you to print 30 photos a month (great for those with growing children), and some make it easy to send the photos as postcards.  After that vacation, you can select your photos on your phone, and have a photo book in the mail by the time you get home!  The books are compact, and they encourage you to keep curating your favorite photos!
